The new Estrella Vista Academy for the Tolleson Union High School District will create a dynamic, academy-style campus designed to support both core academics and specialized career pathways. Spanning approximately 400,000 SF across 12 buildings, the campus will be constructed in two phases, with Phase 1 breaking ground in March 2026 and completing in July 2027. The centerpiece of the first phase is a distinctive two- and three-story academic building whose curved form has earned the nickname “Millennium Falcon”, inspired by the nearby Phoenix Raceway and its racetrack geometry. The campus is organized around a central courtyard with a primary pathway that connects programs and creates opportunities to showcase CTE learning and outdoor instruction, reflecting the “River Nexus” concept developed by DLR Group architects, and inspired by the flowing geometry of nearby Phoenix Raceway. Inside the academic building, traditional classrooms are complemented by life science and physical science labs with integrated casework, sinks, and fume hoods, along with open collaboration areas throughout the corridors featuring whiteboards, flexible seating, and custom acoustical design. The building also houses culinary classrooms and dining spaces, while nearly career-focused facilities include an automotive technology building with five vehicle lifts, including one dedicated to electric vehicles, and aviation and engineering labs equipped with flight simulation technology.
At the center of the academic complex sits a circular fine arts building dedicated to ceramics, marketing, and creative programs, reinforcing the campus’s academy-based learning environment. Students will also benefit from a competition gymnasium with three full basketball courts, sports medicine and training facility, locker rooms, and a large public lobby with concessions. Outdoor athletic amenities include a football and soccer field with track and field events, along with multiple baseball and softball fields, each with spectator seating and Musco lighting. Phase II, scheduled for completion in July 2028, will introduce a Performing Arts Center and music building with stagecraft spaces, ensemble classrooms, dressing rooms, and a balcony theater designed to support performances and community events. Throughout campus, expansive glazing frames views of the Estrella Mountains while shaded solar canopies contribute to the campus’s goal of achieving net-zero energy performance, creating a modern learning environment designed to support Tolleson Union High School District students for generations to come.
